Bob Ezrin: Legendary Music Producer

Bob Ezrin is responsible for at least two of your favorite albums.

People tend to forget that a great music producer sometimes brings the best out of the artist’s recording in an album, somewhat like a director/actor relationship. History has taught us that sometimes a mediocre band can go a long way with an amazing music producer backing them. A talented producer can define the sound, orchestrate the composition and structure the songs. I’m here to remind all you music fans about a true legend named Bob Ezrin.
Bob Ezrin worked with the best from Alice Cooper through Pink Floyd and on to more current bands like The Darkness and Jane’s Addiction. He’s also responsible for at least two of your favorite albums.
Ezrin began his career with one of my all time favorites; Alice Cooper’s 1971 release “Love it to Death”. Ezrin took a struggling band and reformed them into musical giants. “Love it to death” hit the jackpot for Ezrin with its hit “Eighteen” and the Cooper - Ezrin collaboration would go on to last many years through albums like “Killer”, “School’s Out”, “Welcome to my Nightmare” and many more.

He moved on to another favorite of mine; Lou Reed’s “Berlin”. His theatric and classical touches prompted artists like Kiss and Peter Gabriel to ask Ezrin to work with them. But Ezrin’s musical peak was reached with Pink Floyd’s ultimate classic, “The Wall”. Pink Floyd has since worked with Ezrin on the “Momentary Lapse of Reason” and “The Division Bell”.
In 1993 Bob Ezrin made a career change and formed internet start up ‘7th Level’ which developed and published educational and entertainment CD-ROMS. He later came up with the internet radio company called Enigma Digital.
Through it all Ezrin worked his talent producing movies like Jay-Z’s documentary film “Fade to Black” and albums like Deftones’s “Saturday Night Wrist” and 30 Seconds to Mars’s self debut.
Bob Ezrin is personally responsible for some of my favorite albums and for that I am forever in debt. Search your CD collection and give these Ezrin titles another listen and you’ll be reminded what a perfect album is all about.
