Trouble Books: An Appeal

By: Charbarred | in: Music |

Dear Trouble Books,

A few days ago I stumbled upon your album “Distortion Pedal“. As I usually do, I stuck it in my playslist along with the other bands I have to listen to and went on about my business. A few hours later I found myself skipping all the other tunes just so I can hear another one of your tracks. Eventually I just left shuffle mode and played your wonderful album in repeat.

Standard procedure, I figured, I’ll do a quick background check and post a nice article about them. Here’s my chance to tell everyone about how unique this album is and how it sort of reminds me of a band I used to listen to called Radial Spangle.

Trouble Books

A quick Google later and I was presented with your MySpace page. There was no about section, just a bunch of weird and wacky tunes that really convinced me to do the write up. A quick click on the band website link lead me to a Gecities website (I didn’t even know Geocities still existed). The cryptic site only presented a little info about the album being out and some contact details. I quickly sent you an email requesting details about your sweet lo-fi sounds with the nice backwards guitars and hint of a horn section which is so reminiscent of Hood. Biting my nails I waited impatiently but to no avail.

So I decided to post this appeal in hopes you might Google yourselves and land upon this humble blog. Maybe your fans from Akron Ohio will find us and tell us more about your witty lyrics. After all how many people use phrases such as “You don’t sing when you do the dishes anymore”?

So who the hell are you? Why do you have 48 fans on Last.fm and no marketing guy is bombarding us with press kits and glossy photos?

OK, so maybe I should have waited a bit more for your reply. Maybe I should have contacted your through MySpace. Maybe I could have figured out that some of you guys are part of another great band called Six Parts Seven and contacted them? But then again, I reckon this makes for a much more interesting post.

Yours,
Charbarred

Trouble Books - We Went to the Fossil Bed, but We Came Back Growling

UPDATE

I just received the info from the band…so here it is in all its glory. (Thanks Keith)

“Distortion Pedal” is our third self-released album.  Keith Freund writes the songs and records them at home in the living room. He lives with his girlfriend,  Linda Lejsovka, who sings on “talons” and  “…growling” and “tusk love”. She also plays drums & melodica on the album. His other roommate is Mike  Tolan, who plays guitar & bass & sub bass pedals &  other instruments & sings on “tugboat”. Jen Court  (clarinet & singing on the title track) and Matt Haas  (guitar) used to live in the same house, but Jen lives  with Jake Trombetta now (Wurlitzer on “the very end”)  and Matt Wanders around. Most of the members also play in the Six Parts Seven (Suicide Squeeze Records). They rarely practice and just try to make interesting & imaginative stuff without taking anything too seriously.

i don’t know much about them besides the fact that they played in my living room once. and slept in my apartment. they were super awesome people all around.

they did “tour” with nat baldwin (a solo [sometimes he’ll have a band with him] double bass player) who was in the dirty projectors for a while, so that could explain the no press kit and such. they were super down to earth and i doubt they want to get huge, though their music sure could warrant a larger fan base.

as for the six parts seven thing, i’m not sure the three members are in that band full time, they might just be touring members.

regardless this record is something awesome. (and so are their older ones for that matter)

Thanks Travis, this is greatly appreciated…that is some mighty fine info.
Now it’s only a matter of hunting down those other albums…
Oh yeah, and we’ll keep checking in on Little Yellow Bird, so far it’s sounding great.
