Website Review: Filmspot the Ultimate Movie Community
By: Rustycat | in: Movies, Technology |I love movies and for years now I’ve been relying on IMDB as my official source of information, but no more - Filmspot hits the spot.

When it comes to movies you couldn’t find a better source than IMDB, it’s a one stop shop for movie lovers. But it has always been missing a key element, a community structure. It’s true that you can chat in their forums but they’re so lo-fi - web 1.0 - and it’s just not enough. We also have the Rotten Tomatoes, but I never took a liking to it.
I was always curious as why the ‘CNET Network’ doesn’t launch a movie community. I’m glad to inform you all that the time has come for us to take our movie thoughts, comments, reviews and articles to a well crafted movie community website and leave IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes behind.
Filmspot opened its doors recently to BETA users. If you know CNET’s TV.com community you’ll feel right at home with Filmspot. You can use the same username and password as you use on TV.com, Gamespot, Metacritic and MP3.com, giving you immediate access to all the features. For those who aren’t particularly familiar with the CNET Network, here’s what you can do on Filmspot:
The usual: review movies, show listings, rate, watch trailers, read news, read interviews and special articles, check out actor and movie info and all the rest of the IMDB usuals.
Community: save your favorites, add friends, post blog entries, forum, submit user links, contribute, comment, online chats and all the rest of the web 2.0 tweaks.
If you want to be a top user and enjoy the full potential of the platform you’ll need to work hard; post on your blog, review, have friends, chat, and contribute. But if you love your films and are seeking a good community, this will be all fun and games.
Film buffs who really want to get to the core of things, can store their swords away. The battle of a proper movie community website has just been won by Filmspot.
See you there and don’t forget to give a ‘thumbs up’ to our articles when you stumble upon them!
