Rusty’s Pandora Box: Blanche, Ours to Destroy and Turner Cody

By: Rustycat | in: Music |

Here are some new discoveries from all of my hours wandering the web.

Blanche

Blanche
You might remember Blanche from back in the White Stripes days (2004). There was quite a buzz on this Detroit band’s first album ‘If We Can’t Trust the Doctors’. All the fuss was about how husband and wife Dan and Tracee Miller kicked around past bands with Jack White, and Dan even directed the ‘Hotel Yorba’ video.
But not much has been said on their recently released album ‘Little Amber Bottles’. Folk, Punk, Sad, Happy, Banjos, Pedal Steel and many more moods and instruments surround you from every direction. It’s one of those albums which I know I’ll be listening to for months now and gradually discover more and more songs I love.

Our to Destroy

Ours to Destroy
Ours to Destroy came highly recommended by a good friend. The minute I clicked play on their song ‘Two Thousand Sunsets’ it completely took me away from what I was doing and put my mind somewhere in the desert, driving a broken down Ford thinking of the next chapter in my journey.
Their music is very eclectic and you won’t find one song similar to another. From their BIO: “Ours To Destroy’’s anarchist folk abstract is a unique juxtaposition of introspective folk with more aggressive experimental rock and melodic pop.”

Turner Cody

Turner Cody
This Bostonian singer/songwriter manages to pull off a smooth sounding album which reminds me of a young Bob Dylan but with a alt country, Calexico twist.
Cody has recently released an album on a Belgian label B.Y_ Records. His album, ’60 Seconds a Compilation 2000-2005’ is pretty much what the name says. He compiled all his material and made a great collection of it. I discovered his video, Suzannah, on Daily Motion (http://www.dailymotion.com/byrecords/video/x1qk5d_suzannah-turner-cody-by-rkolacz) and it’s definitely worth a quick Plugg.
