The Inbox: Rasputina, Nizlopi, The Foundry Field Recordings, Kate Nash and Redstone Arsenal

Deleting all the spam from our inbox is becoming a full time job…Luckily we get all sorts of great music as well and it’s time we shared it with you.

Rasputina

Rasputina
Chamber rock trio Rasputina is readying their sixth full length album for a June 26 release. Singer Melora Creager compiled a large list of phrases and words she found on the news, later on transforming it to the lyrics of the entire album. Judging from the sneak preview we were sent, this is shaping up to be quite an impressive album.

Nizlopi

Nizlopi
In 2005 Nizlopi were fighting it out for the coveted UK Christmas no. 1 slot. They ended up losing to equivalent of the American Idol winner in England. Not to worry, the ever exuberant folksters are back with a love song…to a festival. The song (and video) pay a perfect tribute to the UK’s largest and most important festival. Check it out.

The Foundry Field Recording

The Foundry Field Recordings
We love this band, and are very happy to let you know that Fallout Stations, their new EP is finally getting a proper release. It’s a companion EP to their full-length Prompts/Miscues and contains new songs, rarities, and highlights directly relating back to the concept album.

Kate Nash

Kate Nash
If you haven’t caught Kate Nash’s first video, you’re in for a treat. A few months have gone by and Nash is moving up in the world. She’s signed to Fiction records and is ready to release her first proper single “Foundations”. Looks like someone is about to give Lilly Allen a run for her money.

Redstone Arsenal

Redstone Arsenal
I love getting those “check out my band” emails because I actually check them out…In the era of MySpace, all it takes is a simple link…one listen later, and I’m giving these Californians a much deserved Plugg. That being said, don’t underestimate them, Redstone Arsenal is well worth a listen.

Great song by Rasputina. Interesting Nelora Creager used random phrases and words from the news to create the ltrics for the album. I recall that David Byrne did the same thing to create the lyrics for Speaking In Tongues, and if memory serves the technique was created by William S. Burroughs as a method for creating poetry / prose. It creates really interesting juxtapositions.
