New Music Releases Week of August 21st
By: Rustycat | in: Music |Here’s a quick round-up of some of the most interesting releases coming our way this week:

Rilo Kiley – Under the Blacklight
Rilo Kiley’s new release is probably one of the most blogged about albums this week. We all remember front woman, Jenny Lewis’s top selling release last year, Rabbit Fur Coat. To those of you who feared she’d abandoned her beloved friends from Rilo Kiley, fear not, Under the Backlight is packed with many great tunes and even a few pop radio hits to be.

New Pornographers – Challenge
From our post “Indie Show Tunes” - An ongoing discussion with oneself is very popular in many shows. With their excellent new prog-pop album, The New Pornographers have some really interesting tricks up their collective sleeves.

Talib Kweli – Ear Drum
Talib has always been considered one of the most innovative rappers in the biz. He manages to mix it up between the bling and fancy cars and the true artist within, with some of the most interesting lyrics ever written in rap. He’s past two albums were pretty much a disappointment to his fans but Ear Drum marks a new standard and will prove to be a very successful album. He worked with many great artists on it such as Kanye West, Norah jones, Pete Rock and even Jstin Timberlake.
Heroin Diaries Soundtrack
Smashed up cars, jail sentences, models, drugs, breakups, reunions and more breakups were all in a days work for one of the most influential heavy metal bands in the 80’s, Motely Crue. Nikki Sixx, bassist and main songwriter for Motely Crue is releasing a book that takes the readers to the heart of Heroin addiction and one of the most craziest times in rock n’ roll and for the first time ever he recorded a soundtrack to the book.
The Flaming Lips – U.F.O’s At the Zoo - The Legendary Concert in Oklahoma City (DVD)
Comic book outfits, blasts of hot air, pastel confetti, and yellow exercise balls, all while performing songs from their extensive and inventive psychedelic pop canon is just some of the fun within the long awaited DVD from The Flaming Lips.
It’s coming out on a new format called MVI (Music Video Interactive, formerly DVD), here’s what’s inside: packaged in a Digipak, newly modified for MVI. This new MVI disc is packed with content. In addition to the entire concert, backstage and other footage surrounding the event, the disc includes MP3s, digital artwork and a ringtone application allowing fans to make and buy their own Lips ringtones. The ROM portion of the disc contains a PDF of the booklet, buddy icons, photos and other extras.

This was a busy week. But you forgot to add M.I.A.’s Kala and Caribou’s Andorra which are both exceptional LPs. Rilo Kiley’s new album is a big slurp, most disappointing of the summer so far
Yeah, I’ve been reading lukewarm to outright negative reviews about Rilo Kiley. I’m still going to check it out though.
Nice beats I do love the first one. Thank you
There are some really great reviews about Rilo Kiley as well. It all depends on whether you’re OK with the album being very poppy. From what I’ve heard so far it’s a perfect pop album, but it usually takes me quite a while to form an opinion of a Rilo Kiley album.
Is it just me or is that Rilo Kiley song pretty much a riff on the start of George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord”? Is it only because I just finished watching The Concert For Bangladesh?
You nailed it D
