Andrew Bird - Imitosis
By: Kendall | in: Music |
The other night I was up a tad later than usual and happened to be watching David Letterman. He announced a musician named Andrew Bird was to play at the end of the show, and showed the Album Cover of his album Armchair Apocrypha. I hadn’t heard of Andrew Bird, but was intrigued by the cover so I decided to stay tuned for a while and watch. When Andrew finally came on I was stunned to see a quirky, skinny man with loose curls, and a suit plucking a violin, and switching quickly to his guitar. As he twitched through his song “Plasticities” I was reminded of David Byrne a bit, but certainly not a copier. The song changes keys, twists and turns, and even ends up with him whistling while playing the xylophone.

The next day I got a video for his song Imitosis in the mail. It was done in stop motion animation. A beetle wanders around his surroundings only to be grabbed by a man that decorates him and other beetles in jewels. They realize their new beauty and begin to waltz. Very odd, but very cool. I have heard several tracks off of Bird’s new album, and haven’t heard the whole thing, but would confidently call it one of my favorite albums of the year.

I really enjoyed these.. thanks
You gotta check out his previous album ‘the mysterious production of eggs’. It’s a masterpiece.
Never heard of this guy. I really liked placticities. I’ve certainly been missing out on a great musician.
Imitosis is very nice. It sounds quite impressive at first listen, this is the most commercial Andrew Bird record, though. Btw, can you replace the link to Modern Music blog, i don’t use buluthim.blogspot.com anymore.
You got it bulut
