Happy Birthday to The Plugg!

The Plugg is one year old! It took Rusty 3 months to convince me to start a blog. I told him it will take up a considerable amount of time but he kept badgering until I had to cave in. Well…a year has gone by robbing us of countless hours (note, this post alone took 2 hours to put together). Was it worth it? Oh yeah!

If you want to read the story of The Plugg you can head over here, I guess there’s no point in repeating it. We’ve gone from having 40 readers a week to 1500 unique readers a day – that’s 10500 readers a week and counting, and that’s not including this story that got 20,000 hits all by itself. Of course it’s all about the great writers who have contributed so many amazing articles to our little site. Guys, thank you so much for your contribution, and here’s to another incredible year.

On this special occasion we asked our regular writers to tell us 2 things we don’t know about them. Since this is an entertainment blog everyone has also included their favorite song of the moment.

RustyCat
1. Rusty is actually my real live cat, I’ve stolen his identity and this is his picture.
2. I love the last Justin Timberlake album. (glad I got that off my chest..)

Favorite song of the moment: Pink & Noseworty - Forgive Me

Charbarred
1. When I was 10 I got run over by car twice in the same week. The first time I merely scraped my elbow. The second time the car hit my foot and sent me flying through the air. The driver insisted on taking me to the hospital but I ran away. Feeling I was pale I slapped myself in the face so my parents won’t suspect anything. When I got back home it took them about a second to draw it out of me. I told them the story to which my father’s reply was “so did the driver slap you?”
2. As a kid I was terrified of horror movies. So terrified that every time a horror trailer played on TV I would stay up all night in a state of fear. One weekend, sick of being scared, I rented every movie that ever kept me up and watched them all one after another. Since then I’m a big horror fan.

Favorite song of the moment: Say Hi - Zero To Love

Kendall
1. I’m an Art School dropout and Recording Arts Graduate
2. First Record was Huey Lewis and the News – Fore

Favorite song of the moment: Let’s Go Sailing - Icicles

Alibastard
1. The Escapists:

2. http://ericraydavidson.blogspot.com/2007/07/collaborate.html

Favorite song of the moment: anything by Dopo Yume

Lee
1. I’m a reformed underachiever. It started in 4th grade. Up until then I was the teachers pet. A year later my teacher realized that my grades were slipping. They came to the conclusion that I wasn’t being challenged and school was becoming boring for me. Nothing was done to remedy this. I just continued being bored and became a C student for the majority of my academic career. I never studied for test and considered it a blessing if I got a B. I left college in 2002 vowing never to return, but after 5 years of not doing much and being broke I decided I need to change my attitude. Now I’m the nerd that sits in the front of the class and messes up the curve for all the other students. All I ever needed was a challenge.
2. I’m a hopeless romantic: One of my favorite movies is Nights of Cabiria by Federico Fellini. It stares Giulietta Masina (Fellinis’ wife) and she plays a prostitute in search of love. Throughout the course of the movie things go badly for her. Not bad in a “They cheat on her” kind of way but a “They throw her in a lake and try to throw her off a cliff” kind of way. Nevertheless she never gives up on love. While I’ve never had anyone try to kill me I’ve had my share of heartbreak and for some reason I can’t seem to give up. What can I say, I like a challenge.

Favorite song of the moment: Kimya Dawson - Looselips

Mozzer
1. I’m happily married and a proud father of 3 wonderful children. This wife mercifully puts up with my endless discussions of bands, solo artists, and their songs.
2. My line of work has nothing to do with music or entertainment. Without getting too specific, I work in the financial industry. It doesn’t get any more mundane than that!

Favorite song of the moment: James - Ring the Bells

Lior
1. As a child, there were two things I couldn’t stand: denim jeans and butter.
2. I think Neil Young is one of the most over rated artists in the world.

Song of the moment: Justice - Genesis

D Thompson
1. I have a loaded crossbow hanging on the wall but don’t much care for handguns, though I’m an excellent shot.
2. I have a personal collection of aproximately 3,000 DVD’s, which makes me very happy, except when I think about all the money I’ve spent over the past twelve years buying them. Anyone who tries to steal the DVD’s will get the crossbow.
3. BONUS FUN FACT! I let my subscription to Wired Magazine run out because that magazine used to be a techno nerd’s paradise but now it’s like some crappy lifestyle thing. Ugh.

Song o’ the moment: Big Black - Bad Penny

As we blow out the candles we’d like to thank everyone who’s helped us. Thank you Yaya and Juneda who are on their way to becoming full fledged Plugg writers. A big thank you to our fellow bloggers who let us syndicate their articles, Ryan, Ekko and Tibi, we love your stuff. A big kiss to all our new community members. And the biggest thank you to our readers of course (that’s you!).
Sappy moment’s over…back to strange indie music and weird films tomorrow…

There’s nothing like a big fight at a birthday party. Now THAT’S living! :D
Charbarred, I just want to thank you for inviting me to write for The Plugg. Even after I told you the last time I was asked to write about music I got drunk and wrote a review of the chow mein at Hung Far Lo’s instead. What a great guy you are.

Who knew that I, with a handful of malformed ideas and spotty grammar, would be writing for a blog that I’d been reading practically from its inception. It’s been a pleasure and privilege to be a small part of this venture.

Keep up the great work Char, Rusty, and all who’ve made this blog a prime destination for music, movies, and various forms of entertainment. Happy Birthday!

Congratulations - especially for succeeding so well WITHOUT having to rely on Digg! Duly noted here:

Banned from Digg? You must be doing something right!

The Plugg is way cool, and I’m not just saying that so –THIS NAME HAS BEEN REDACTED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY– won’t poison my beer. Happy Birthday!

    Congratulations!

Here’s another one about Rusty: some 15 years ago Rusty was lying at the side of the road after a car smashed his scooter. My sister happened to get there a couple of minutes later. As she took him to hospital he kept saying ‘My mother shouldn’t know about this’.

These guys have a fetish or what?!
