Trent Renzor and Saul Williams Follow Radiohead
By: Kendall | in: Music |
The Plugg was fast to report on Radiohead’s last release being given to fans on an “as much as you feel” basis. There were some waves to be made with that announcement. As many people speculated, it has been reported that Trent Reznor is jumping on the bandwagon. Interestingly though, this will not be a NIN release. Trent Reznor has teamed up Saul Williams (much like his team up with Marilyn Manson on Antichrist Superstar, and definitely his biggest collaboration on a non-NIN record since then) to release The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Stardust. Saul Williams is a former street poet who opened for NIN on several tours. Many would classify this release as a hip-hop record, but you can look for a blend of several formats. What else would you expect with Trent Reznor teaming up with a rapper? Even the artwork on the website looks like it was sharing it’s quill with Reznor.
The record will be released on November 1st. You can choose between two DRM-free formats at 192kbs or 320kbs .mp3 files. Visit this site to order. Pre-orders are already available. Saul has asked for $5 donation, but WILL give it away for less.

Oh…and this:
My Dearest Friends and Fans,
It is my greatest honor to present to you The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!,
my new album produced by Trent Reznor and mixed by Alan Moulder. The wall of sound that we’ve created is tagged with such graffiti that a passerby would seek out doors and ways to ENTER. Once inside a world defined by dreams come true they’d find aligned with the simplest act of sharing what we treasure. Most people aren’t aware of the world of art and commerce where exploitation strips each artist down to nigger. Each label, like apartheid, multiplies us by our divide and whips us ’til we conform to lesser figures. What falls between the cracks is a pile of records stacked to the heights of talents hidden from the sun. Yet the energy they put into popularizing smut makes a star of a shiny polished gun. The ballot or the bullet for Mohawk or the mullet is a choice between new times and dying days. And the only way to choose is to jump ship from old truths and trust dolphins as we swim through changing ways. The ways of middlemen proves to be just a passing trend. We need no priests to talk to God. No phone to call her. And when you click the link below, i think it fair that you should know that your purchase will make middlemen much poorer…
NiggyTardust!
love,
Saul
Great news, I’ll glady put down my five bucks for this!
I certainly hope more artist follow suit. I’m all about middlemen becoming poorer.
Mr. Reznor also did “Flyentology” with EL-P (founder of Def Jux Records) this year.
Tell you the truth, I never heard of this guy, but at least from the stuff on his MySpace and the videos I’d shell out the 5 bucks
Uhmmm, I wouldn’t calling it jumping on the bandwagon. Trent did an interview shortly after the release of YearZero down in Australia and said that he’d be looking to release his music for roughly $4 a CD. That’d be more than enough money to fund the artist, and if you really like it, come to a show, buy a t-shirt or something. It’s ridiculous to think we shell out $20 for a CD and less than a $1 of that makes it to the artists –Where does it go?! The question is simple, how much is music worth to you?
FYI: I purchased the radiohead album for $10. Well worth it, and I’m glad to know its mostly going to the artist.

He talked about it, but hadn’t done anything until he teamed up with Saul to release this album. So maybe the best description would not be jumped on the bandwagon, BUT, he wasn’t the first do do it either. I’m all for paying for music what you think it’s worth. I’d rather see it go to the artist any day of the week. As many of us know, if you get an album and enjoy it, chances are you will go to the show once you have been exposed. So I”m right there with you on that one Chas3r.
Umm, you’re wrong about “two DRM-free formats”, they’re offering it in THREE, and one of them is lossless, so audio-wise it’s identical to the CD (which cannot be said at all of the new Radiohead album, even ignoring the fact that there’s track on the physical disk that aren’t part of the download).
