Meet The Dø

The Dø

My friend Tobi called me up the other day inform me that The Do are coming to the UK and that I should come. Apparently they embarked on a tour of dingy venues and I can’t afford to miss it. Three more phone calls later, an email and a build up so big that had God himself gone up on stage and played a banjo solo, I’d probably still be disappointed, I relented.

The Dø - On My Shoulders

The Dø (pronounced Do as is Do Re Mi, you know the first note on the scale, not Do as in “do you want to get on with this article already?”), are a French duo that really made me re-evaluate dingy London venues. Live, they are ferocious. Prancing around like demented Manga characters (and dressed the part as well), they shredded the 629 club like their life depended on it.

The Dø - At Last

Describing them as a cross between The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and CSS would not do them do them sufficient justice. Singer Olivia B.Merilahti (she’s originally from Finland) merges cool and emotion in a way that surpasses the aforementioned retro acts. The music fuses rock, tribalism and electronics in a unique way and the energy is relentless.

The Dø - Playground Hustle

Their first album, “A Mouthful” is out on January 14th, and in the meantime I’d recommend you go and visit them on MySpace. Watch this space for a full album review.

Really fucking loved it. I’m a bit sad I can’t find more of their stuff to share with my clique in western Oklahoma but hell…you never know. I want them to do great things. Thanks The Do! Thank you very much. Come to Oklahoma…good people.

A Mouthful is a brilliant first album! Everyone who I have introduced them to over here in Toronto loves The Do. The big question is: when are they coming to tour Canada???
