The Obligatory Christmas Cover Post
By: Mozzer | in: Music |
In addition to year-end lists, what any self-respecting blog does this time of year is post their favorite covers of Christmas Songs. Without further ado, here’s a list of cool yuletide tunes.
Bright Eyes - Silent Night: It’s Christmas with Conor in a hazy dreamlike state. One of my absolute favorites.
Cranes - Happy Xmas (War is Over): A Gothic-tinged mood pervades Lennon’s introspective song. Alison Shaw’s unique vocals are mesmerising.
Death Cab For Cutie - Gibbard and Co. take on the Darlene Love Classic. The soulful and uptempo original becomes a sedate and contemplative rendition.
Corporal Blossom - White Christmas: DThompson offered this interesting cover of other White Christmas covers. Samples are chopped, cut and reassembled over a drum machine. Pretty cool stuff.
Be it good or bad, what are some of your favorite Christmas time covers?

I’m glad someone is doing Holiday posts. I’m so bad at those.
Great post mozzer, I really love Bright Eyes virtually ambient take on silent night
Another good (tho ubiquitous) cover is David Bowie and Bing Crosby’s duet on “Little Drummer Boy”. It’s a nice song and their voices work surprisingly well together.
AND I’m glad people are doing end of the year posts too….
These are not your mothers christmas carols!
I enjoyed each one of them. Thanks Mozzer.
MERRY MERRY!
If I can recommend one indie christmas CD its Bright Eyes “A Christmas Album”.
They stick to the traditional songs and are surprisingly moving. It’s probably too late to order it online (via saddle-creek.com), but keep it in mind for christmas 2008.
Have a great Holiday Season everyone!
