Madonna?
Have they run out of actual rock musicians to induct?
I agree… I heard about Madonna being inducted here: http://currentlyhot.com/madonna-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-bound
And then I almost flipped out. There are PLENTY of ROCK AND ROLL musicians to induct before Madonna. She is more of a pop sensation than anything else. They just opened up the doors to having the Rock and Roll HOF being a watered down joke.
Seriously… Start a Pop HOF and put her in that or at least wait a few years I mean cmon…
Char’s 33 or 34 so he probably bought his first record 15 to 20 years ago. Seeing as to how he’s a musician, let’s say 20. So, first record bought around 1988. Big artists in the late 80’s = Madonna and Mellencamp.
Am I on the right path?
OK. When you’re a kid you’re buying what you hear on the radio (usually) and Mellencamp had “Big Daddy” out in 1989 but it was an acoustic album with no real hits so that’s out. “Scarecrow” was more popular but that was 1985 making Char 9 or 10, certainly earlier than anyone I know bought a record. And the album Char’d be most likely to buy, the hit machine “Uh-Huh” was out in 1983 making him 7 or 8! Gotta say no to Mellencamp.
Madonna hit #1 big time with “True Blue” in 1986, Char is an impressionable 10 or 11 year old, looking good. “Like A Prayer” comes out in 1989, catchy, kid-friendly, Char is at the reasonable first album purchasing age of 13 or 14.
I say his first album was either “True Blue” or “Like A Prayer” by Madonna.
Final answer, Regis.
You should be a music detective D
True Blue it is! I also bought Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet with it. Does that make it alright.
I have great respect for Madonna, but Rob’s idea of a Pop HOF is much better then robbing Husker Du once again of the prize.
Nothing’s wrong with Madonna, her importance to 80’s music can’t be underestimated. As to whether she’s rock or pop… OK, I guess she’s pop music. But, having to split hairs over whether any artist inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame is “rockin’” enough is a road I’d just as soon not go down.
That said, I can’t believe Husker Du hasn’t been inducted yet. What a crime.
Keep in mind the Beastie Boys were nominated and shot down! They are hip hop and rock (further back in the past). Do THEY count? they have influenced rock music today more than a lot of artists.
did any one of you hear about unlimited iphone, zune downloads?
