Paper Rival: The Band Formerly Known as Keating
By: Kendall | in: Music |
Apparently a band named Keating had just released an EP, when they were ordered to change their name. As soon as they had signed to a label (Photo Finish), the name was put through the typical copyrighting fandango. Unfortunately, they discovered a band by the same name was playing in Canada. Lead singer Jacob Rolleston, and guitarist Patrick Damphier had two names in mind respectively: Modern Rival and Paper Tiger. There soon was a compromise on Paper Rival.
Enough background. The band hails from Nashville, TN. Combining emo-tinged guitars with delayed effects, and dry drums filled in by vocals that are easy to digest, but not quite perfect. Unlike a lot of their indie siblings, the songs change up enough to keep it interesting, and still manage to keep you hooked with harmony.
Currently they have released a self titled EP, and a full length album is due out in 2008. Check out their track ‘You Were Right’.

Seems like just about any name is already copyrighted.
