Triple J’S Hottest 100 - 2008
By: JenWilson | in: Music |
The Triple J hottest 100 is probably the biggest public-voted countdown of music in Australia, and is based on the music played on triple j through the year. This year had the most amount of votes EVER (over 700,000) and it showcases some of the country’s - and the world’s - best songs, without a doubt. If you check it out, the site has a whole lot more than just the list so it’s worth the visit. I recommend looking further into these local acts…
Bluejuice - these guys have a lot of label interest brewing but from what they tell me, they’re not in any hurry to sign… Vitriol got smashed at triple j this year, now their new single The Reductionist is starting to gather some steam out at radio.
Bluejuice - Vitriol

Muscles - signed to the same label as Wolfmother and The Presets, Muscles has started to build his festival profile as triple j keeps HAMMERING songs from his entire debut album, Guns. Babes. Lemonade… he even has people walking around events with ‘muscles, i love u, i want to have ur babies’ t-shirts on.
Muscles - Ice Cream
The Presets - If you have been a regular on the international festival circuit, most likely you’ve run into these guys. they’re consistently taking their sounds to the world, so much so that I’ve almost had a coronary waiting for them! but one listen to My People and it’s all worth it…
The Presets - My People
Architecture In Helsinki - Another well recognized name on the international touring circle, this group will set any stage alight. they had a number of tracks on rotation last year at triple j, in fact i think there were several entries in the Hottest 100 as a result. Anyway, Heart It Races is one good track that comes to mind.

John Butler Trio - JBT had a few tracks in the Hottest 100, my fave being Used To Get High. A well worn presence on the live scene, in 2007 he really proved himself at radio as well. Nice work, Johnny!
John Butler Trio - Better Than
Gyroscope - in my opinion these guys are WAY underestimated by commercial radio, they pack out gigs all over the country and have come back with an amazing new album - which i say without even hearing it all! - check out Snakeskin.
Gyroscope - Snakeskin
And that’s just the top 20… ahh, it makes me shiver how good it is!!!

Some good music there Jen. I especially like Bluejuice, that song’s got a real Fall influence to it.
One thing, is triple j a radio station? And if it is, what’s the difference between getting heavy rotation on triple j and play at radio?
Overall, an excellent group of songs.
D, I Triple J is a radio station in Australia, hence the diversity…Jen, care to tell us more about Triple J?
Sorry for the late reply guys, I’ve had trouble logging into this site to get access for more blogs.
If you want to know more about triple j, check out the site at http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/. It’s got a bunch of stuf up there that is awesome, i honestly can’t rave enuf about this station. It’s the national youth network but it appeals to a pretty wide variety of listeners - all of which enjoy great music of course!
Hope you like it
