The Plugg Inbox: If You Loved Juno, You’ll Love…
By: Rustycat | in: Music |We get hundreds of press releases on a daily basis to our inbox. We love the music and the press agents and labels are sending us, truly awesome stuff, but it’s really hard writing about each and every cool band. So I wanted to share some quick notes with you guys while I listen to music.
I have to add that it’s quite refreshing to see that the promoters out there are doing a great job sending us music that really connects with what The Plugg is all about. Thanks!

The Terrordactyls (featuring Kimya Dawson) – Devices
[Download]
“Michael and Tyrel recently put the finishing touches on the upcoming Mike Bowers EP, covering five songs by the Seattle band (and close friends) The Pharmacy. Meanwhile, the duo’s self-titled debut album has been receiving lots of attention recently for its song “Devices” featuring Kimya Dawson”
Rusty says:
Ok, it’s a really good song and I also dug the Juno track obviously, but don’t over do it.

The Diggs – Careen
[Download]
“The Diggs are Timothy Lannen (guitar/vocals), Robert Haussmann (bass), and Charlie Schmid (percussion), a Brooklyn-based band that champion the epic mid-nineties indie rock sound that is sure to please fans of The Stone Roses, Built To Spill, and Sunny Day Real Estate.”
Rusty says:
Very Silversun Pickups, I’m looking forward to this one, we might actually get a proper guitar rock album this year.

Sybris – Oh Man
[Download]
“Chicago’s Sybris is a quartet of powerful grace, the sound of a battalion of Valkyries astride winged horses bound for Valhalla. Into the Trees is the band’s second album, recorded with Grammy-nominated engineer John Congleton (Explosions in the Sky, Mountain Goats) in the backwoods of Minnesota at Pachyderm Studio.”
Rusty says:
I like it; it’s got a familiar quality to it that makes me wish I had the album already.

Capgun Coup – A Liar in Texas in a Green Room in Memphis / Oh My Mod
“The members of Capgun Coup, Sam Martin, Greg Elsasser, Eric Ohlsson and Andy Matz, are not the well-versed students of rock music, and so their debut album, Nebraskafish, demonstrates a refined sonic schizophrenia.”
Rusty says:
The band is really diverse in their music so here’s another track while we’re at it:
Oh My Mod:

Pattern is Movement – Right Away
[Download]
“Part madrigal, part chamber music, part post-rock, and wholly indescribable, All Together is an early contender for album of the year. Together with co-conspirator/engineer/sometime guitarist Scott Solter, the duo has created a work without analogue or peer, and it marks the beginning of Pattern is Movement as a musical touchstone.”
Rusty says:
Stereogum said this about the band: “Pattern Is Movement deserve your worship” – so I’m giving them the proper listen they deserve. I really like the sound on the track.

La Scala – Parallel Lives
[Download]
“La Scala plays the kind of music found in the Sicilian alleys frequented only by the forlorn street singer, or in the smoky cabarets of prewar Paris, or in the tiny hillside villages of the Eastern bloc, tucked away all those years behind that iron drapery. Eastern European folk, and saccharine 1960’s Continental Pop music.”
Rusty says:
I don’t know what exactly but something throughout the track caught my attention. It has a little of everything, reminds me of The Killers aside lo-fi indie acts. Maybe it’s just me…

Throw Me the Statue – About to Walk
[Download]
“Throw Me the Statue has been wow-ing audiences of the Pacific Northwest for the past year, earning a residency slot at Seattle’s Chop Suey and a west coast tour with Jens Lekman. The release of his debut album on Secretly Canadian, “Moonbeams”, is upon us! “Moonbeams” is available in stores now!”
Rusty says:
As usual, one of my favorite labels - ‘Secretly Canadian’.

Gentleman Auction House – The Book of Matches
[Download]
“Alphabet Graveyard manages to retain the tender and emotive melodies and impeccably tasteful arrangements that have always been the most endearing components in the Gentleman Auction House sound, but new explorations of everything from reggae-infused rhythms to jangly Motown guitar flourishes find a home on this full-length debut. Coming in June”
Rusty says:
Nothing. It’s good. See you next week…
