Song of the Week - April 18

By: Rustycat | in: Music |

Deus Live

Every other week each of our writers shares the song that made his/her week just a little bit brighter.

Kendall
You, Me, & The Bourgeoisie by The Submarines
Lo-fi, ultra poppy girl singer. Xylophones. Beatles reminiscent tones and piano stabs. How could it be bad? Do do do do do do….you’ll be singing along too!

Charbarred
Oh Your God by dEUS
I caught dEUS live a couple of days ago. It was the third time I saw them and I really can’t think of a better live band. Their new album ships in a couple of weeks and if that’s not enough to get you excited, nothing is.

D Thompson
Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Back when I was still buying everything on vinyl, because CD was still just part of the alphabet, I didn’t much care for Nick Cave’s band The Birthday Party. When that band fell apart and Nick resurfaced as Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds I didn’t care about them either. It wasn’t untill I bought a soundtrack that contained his fantastic “Red Right Hand” that I cared about Nick in the least. Now, after digging about a bit, I realize what a fool I was. And, NOW, Nick and his Bad Seeds have put out a first-rate album called Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!! of which this is the equally first-rate title track. Don’t make the same mistake I did! Pay attention to Nick Cave!

Mistaken for Strangers by The National
I know these guys are last year’s talk of the blog sphere but I must admit I missed out on them and I’m only getting on board now. This is an amazing album I especially like Mistaken for Strangers, it’s got everything the band represents. Is it just me or does the open riff remind you of a Sonic Youth track?

You’re right Rusty, it does sound like a Sonic Youth track…I can’t point my finger on the exact one though…

I have to say Kendall, that’s one of the best song titles I’ve ever heard.

Thompson, the reason you think so is because you haven’t visited this page yet:

I have been listening to this disk all week. Saw them in concert and got kicked out for slamming. It would have been annoying if my ticket wasn’t free.

This is an awesome tune Itax. The singer kinda looks like he should start a boyband with Mike Patton, but all in all, good stuff.
