Decent Films are Finally Headed Our Way
By: Rustycat | in: Movies |I don’t know if you’ve realized it yet but this might be an all time low for cinema – there’s nothing interesting to see! I go by the DVD store every few days full of renewed hope that I will be surprised and stumble upon a cool action film, a comedy, a fantasy, something watchable so I’ll get my chance to zone out of reality and sit back and enjoy a proper film. I even tried going to the cinema a few times, I ended up seeing some of the most boring films to date, the last one being “21”.
On that note here are a few (hopefully) good films coming our way very soon:

The Fall
Starring: Lee Pace, Justine Waddell, Julian Bleach, Leo Bill and Daniel Caltagirone
Synopsis: Los Angeles, circa 1920’s, a little immigrant girl (Catinca Untaru) finds herself in a hospital recovering from a fall. She strikes up a friendship with a bedridden man (Lee Pace) who captivates her with a whimsical story that removes her far from the hospital doldrums into the exotic landscapes of her imagination. Making sure he keeps the girl interested in the story he interweaves her family and people she likes from the hospital into his tale.

Hancock

Synopsis: There are heroes… there are superheroes… and then there’s Hancock (Will Smith). With great power comes great responsibility — everyone knows that — everyone, that is, but Hancock. Edgy, conflicted, sarcastic, and misunderstood, Hancock’s well-intentioned heroics might get the job done and save countless lives, but always seem to leave jaw-dropping damage in their wake. The public has finally had enough — as grateful as they are to have their local hero, the good citizens of Los Angeles are wondering what they ever did to deserve this guy. Hancock isn’t the kind of man who cares what other people think — until the day that he saves the life of PR executive Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), and the sardonic superhero begins to realize that he may have a vulnerable side after all. Facing that will be Hancock’s greatest challenge yet — and a task that may prove impossible as Ray’s wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), insists that he’s a lost cause.

But the warmongers who dream of abusing his powers won’t leave him alone, nor will his need to be with the only woman he has ever loved, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler). Speed Racer
Starring: John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Christina Ricci and Emile Hirsch
Synopsis: From writer/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski, the creators of the groundbreaking The Matrix trilogy, and producer Joel Silver comes the live-action, high-octane family adventure Speed Racer. Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized — the legendary Rex Racer — whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill. Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed’s thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company’s maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret — some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits.

It’s true, there are some really crappy movies out there lately…Thanks for saving me from 21.
The worst thing is that the good films are way too long, require your full attention and are appalingly slow.
If you do wanna catch some fun ones, try Son of Rambow and Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Don’t forget Iron Man. That looks like it could almost get you to forget the unconscionable price you paid to get into the theater.
The 2008 summer line-up looks frickin’ awesome!
Iron Man, Dark Knight, Wall-E, Hellboy 2, Indy 4, Kung Fu Panda (yeah, sue me), Speed Racer, Hulk, and Hancock are all on my list.
AlsoI forgot Hellboy 2 which looks promising:
