Paul McCartney Made Me Read Trash
By: Charbarred | in: Music |
Much like Prince, Paul McCartney is giving away his album “Memory Almost Full” with today’s Mail on Sunday. I’m not a big fan but a friend convinced me that it’s a special edition CD and that I should own one. After having my coffee this morning I walked to my local news agent and bought a copy of The Mail on Sunday. I quickly unwrapped the CD and stuck in the closet to gather dust with the rest of my CDs.
Since I paid £1.50 for this privilege I figured I’d make the most of it and actually read the newspaper. Now, you don’t have to be British to know that some British newspapers are simply awful. You do, however, tend to ignore it if you can. As I don’t regularly read the newspaper and when I do I don’t stoop that low, I was shocked to flip through the pages of the Mail on Sunday and read the crap they are producing.

Now this isn’t an attack on British journalism as no one is really expecting things to pick up any time soon. I would like to pose a few questions to Sir McCartney though. Yes, apparently The Mail on Sunday is the nation’s favorite weekend paper. Sure, they paid you a lot of money and they have loads of readers. But do you really want to put your name (and reputation) on a paper that only a little while ago was dissecting your divorce in the lowest way possible? Are you sure your album should be given away with a rag whose main interest is Royal gossip and Britney’s Weight?
I have great respect for Paul McCartney (how could you not?). I do, however, think that at this stage of his career he can allow himself some integrity. After all, this is product endorsement, and I’m sure that many more respectable newspapers would be just as happy giving away such a prestigious album. Then again, it’s Paul McCartney, I guess he’s earned the right to do whatever the hell pleases him.

So then , I take it you’re the guy I go to when I want to know the latest Royal gossip.
Dish Char, dish, I don’t get BBC America so I’m relying on you to stay current!
Apparently prince Harry and his body guards were doing 100mph. Since there are no wars in the world and no one is hungry, this is front page news.
Prince Harry And His Bodyguards? Is that some new band?
Yeah, part of the new trend of clean cut bands who like to drive fast and go to charity events. They also solve mysteries in their spare time.
My mum Gets the Mail. she has to hide it from me, apparently it makes me too angry. it must be all that bad journalism
Maybe it should be their new slogan “The Mail - As long as you keep it away from your children”
RE: “Yeah, part of the new trend of clean cut bands who like to drive fast and go to charity events. They also solve mysteries in their spare time…”
We had that show in the states. It was called THE BLOODHOUND GANG.
I thought your upper class twits were supposed to be all cool reserve. You know, tooling about the countryside in an open-topped something or other wearing a bowler with some leggy karate kicking yet still cooly reserved even in skin tight black leather chick in the passenger seat.
I guess I watched too much of “The Avengers” when I was a kid…
Yup, that’s about right. It’s a bit outdated though. With the success of Scooby Doo in the late 70’s, upper class twits were required to get a stoner friend and a big dog and solve mysteries as well.
Well, if you say so.
Couldn’t Prince Harry and the Bodyguards have been, say, on the cusp of SOLVING a mystery (like, how “Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)” EVER became popular) and they were being chased by a monster (who’ll turn out to be - GASP - Justin Timberlake! when they pull the mask off. Maybe that’s why they were going so fast.
Maybe YOU shouldn’t be so quick to judge.
