Old Man Luedecke - Proof of Love
By: Lee H | in: Music |
You may remember the name Steve Dawson from my song of the week not too long ago. The song is question is “Ruin My Day” written by the incomparable Jon Brion and if you haven’t heard it, you should. While Mr. Dawson does have an album worth repeated listens I must say that I prefer his work behind the boards much better. This brings us to Old Man Luedecke and his album “Proof Of Love“ which was produced by Dawson.
Old Man Luedecke - Just Like a River
It’s hard to believe that this album was recorded mostly live in just a couple of days in Vancouver. To say Luedecke is a great banjo player is an understatement but it still takes a back seat to his lyricism. There’s the hero of “Ain’t Goin My Way” , the everyman that sings about overstretching himself who’s “inner napoleon” hastens him to a fall. “Sad as a Forest” details the bitterness of a single leaf in the fall whose life could have been brilliant but feels, instead, “sad as a forest that’s all been cut down.” “Big Group Breakfast” is a celebration of the hangover meal where friends gather in a diner and the song revels in how such rituals help get them through it all. The whole thing isn’t just as catchy as it is poetic.
