31 Knots will keep you Worried Well
By: Rustycat | in: Music |As I’ve mentioned several times in the past, when looking at indie record labels, I see them as taste makers – once I’m hooked on one artist I keep drilling down their complete roster. This brought me to Polyvinyl Records home to 31 Knots, of Montreal, Architecture in Helsinki aside many other well articulated acts. I discovered the label through Architecture in Helsinki and became a big fan.
31 Knots is my favorite by far. It’s always good to find semi-psychedelic alternative bands whose tunes you can actually connect with and peel layer after layer while discovering new aspects to their songs. Saddle Creek’s Cursive is of course the top dog in this field.
With their latest release 31 Knots kept me attached to my headphones all week. Worried Well is a thought out collection of skewed guitars, soft and screaming vocals and fuzzed out tunes that will make you either jump out of your seat or lean back and close your eyes. I’ve been reading some disappointed reviews about the new album, and frankly I have no idea what people are complaining about – it’s one of the best albums I’ve heard this year.
Listen to these tracks and judge for yourself:
Statistics and the Heart of Man
Something Up There This Way Comes
Polyvinyl Records are set to release Of Montreal’s new album ‘Skeletal Lamping’ on September 9th – stay tuned.

It’s a great album, dunno what everyone is bitching about. Much richer than their other stuff. Truly a step in the right direction.
I agree I think it was pretty good too
Discovering new music is one of my favorite things. The two tracks definitely make me want to know more about 31 Knots.
Stopping by to show some love to a fellow music lover. I admire and am inspired by lovers of music…especially those willing to step outside the mainstream and remain true to themselves. Stop by and visit sometime.
Much respect to you and best regards,

Yeah, all their albums seem to get that love it or hate it thing in reviews. There are a bunch of good reviews of this new one out there as well.
With music this complex and different, though, you can’t expect everyone to like it. It’s a shame, but what makes us love them is the very things that keep them an underground secret.
