The Details

Winnipegs’ The Details is a hard working band. Since forming at the tail end of 2005 they’ve hit the ground running, touring nonstop across Canada. Along the way they’ve managed to record a critically acclaimed EP entitled Marching Sound and have just released their first full length Draw a Distance. Draw a Border.

The Details: Reunion Souvenir

The album lays itself out like a dramatic movie about the choices that we make and the loneliness we sometimes feel after we’ve made them. It’s also about getting out of ones boring town and moving on. (and if you’ve ever been to Winnipeg…) The album opener “Always, Always, Always, Never” sets the mood with its refrain of “I won’t forget this moment” and the remainder of the album continues to detail those moments. Draw a Distance. Draw a Border. is unique in the fact that each song is enhanced by the song before it yet each song can easily stand on it’s own.

The Details: Underground

The Details couldn’t have picked a better band name because it’s obvious they went into the studio with a plan. The main song writers and vocalist Jon Plett and Sean Vidal are always accessible without being predictable. On “I asked What We Should Do. You Said, ‘I Just Don’t Want to Think.’” a meeting between two friends goes like this : “We met on Sunday at the curling rink, but you had never really learned to play. So we threw rocks around, not caring where they’d fall. You said it reminded you of Operation: Shock and Awe.” On the album closer “Far Off Places” a discussion goes like this “I asked you, ‘Where the Hell is Boston?’ because you love geography. You said. ‘It’s north of New York city, but it’s also kind of east.’ I love the way you said that. It’s so typical of you. You decide on one direction: to be decidedly confused.”

Needless to say I hope to be hearing much more from these guys.
