Ani Difranco Releases a Huge Retrospective

If you’ve ever been to an Ani Difranco show, you must’ve experienced something similar to me. For starters there’s all that trying not to step on peoples’ jaws (as they’re scattered all over the floor). Playing aside, whatever comes out of her mouth is the wittiest, funniest most profound thing you’ve heard all month. It’s like visiting a cult, in a sense.
Now, after many years of amazing music, she’s releasing a proper retrospective. Like her body of work, it’s huge. Being the epitome of independence, the queen of acoustic funk has released so many records, that choosing a “best of” must have been extremely difficult (and she hand picked the songs herself).

The album, Canon is a 2 CD extravaganza which covers both her funky acoustic work as well as her more recent experimental jazzy material. There are some updated versions of her classic as well, one of which is Napoleon, a song she wrote about Suzanne Vega at the time.

The album is out September 11th and is highly recommended. I’ll leave you with Ms. Difranco telling it like it is.
