Born To Be On The Sopranos

sopranos season 7

Have you ever noticed that in all the movies and TV shows that are about the Sicilian mafia you find the same actors over and over again?
Well I have. I think it’s an industry decision made up high, that Hollywood typecasts you as an actor fit for mafia scenes and that’s it, you’re done. All you can do now is wait for someone to cast you in the Sopranos or wait for the next Scorsese film.
I watched Goodfellas for the millionth time yesterday and realized that my typecast theory is true.

Check this out:

Lorraine Bracco aka Keren Hill on the Goodfellas, plays Ray Liotta’s Jewish wife and… you guessed it, she is also Tony Soprano’s shrink.

Coincidence?

Michael Imperioli aka the stuttering kid who Pesci makes dance like ‘in the movies’ and shoots on Goodfellas, plays Christopher Moltisanti on The Sopranos.

Tony Sirico aka Tony Stacks on Goodfellas is Polly on The Sopranos.
Vincent Pastore aka ‘man with coat rack’ on Goodfellas is Pussy on The Sopranos.
Frank Vincent aka Billy Batts on Goodfellas is Phil Leotardo on The Sopranos.

Want more?

Joseph R. Gannascoli aka ‘Guy who walks downstairs at Paulie’s house’ is non other than Vito on The Sopranos.
Tony Darrow aka Sonny Bunz on Goodfellas plays Larry Boy Barese on Sopranos.
Chuck Low plays De Niro’s real estate broker is Mr. Teittleman (1 episode, 1999) on The Sopranos.

And the list goes on.

I’m guessing David Chase, The Sopranos creator, just said “get me whoever appeared on The Goodfellas that’s still alive and affordable”.
Well, it worked.
But I’d like to see some new Italian Mafia stars. We could actually use another gangster film right about now, The Departed wasn’t exactly a proper mafia film.

For the time being season 7 (or 6 part 2) of The Sopranos will start airing on HBO April 8. Here’s a preview:

I can’t wait to see how it all ends. The last season was horrible, but hopefully they’ll manage to give this amazing show a good send off.

Seeing how the last season played out, they’ll probably have Tony debate himself whether to quit the mafia and go live on a farm with Carmela, for eight episodes.

    I HOPE NOT!

Tony missed his chance to “unload” on his ungrateful shrink. T should have reminded her who took care of her attacker a few years ago, and it sure wasn’t her group of elite cohorts, nor would she even have expected them to do so. Sometimes might is right. Good luck to T and the family in the last episode, we’ll miss Sunday nights.
