Cloverfield Movie Update

By: Mozzer | in: Movies |

Cloverfield
At Thursday’s Comic Con panel, JJ Abrams unveiled the official movie poster for the much ballyhooed 01-18-08 (aka Cloverfield) movie. Simplistic in design, the poster depicts a decapitated Statue of Liberty against a smoldering Manhattan as a backdrop. Cinephiles and Sci-Fi buffs alike were also waiting for the movie’s title to be revealed. A leaked poster suggested the film to be named “Monstrous“; which was met with much derision.

Ever the mysterious and mischievious scamp, Mr. Abrams declined to give out that bit of info. Oh, why must you continue to torment the fanboys! What we do know: this is indeed a monster movie, but not a Godzilla remake, and has nothing to do with Voltron (my don’t we have fertile imaginations!). Also, it will be shot in what has been described as “cinema-verité-style on digital video”. Basically, it’ll have that shaky hand-held camera look. Mmmm, vertigo inducing goodness. With roughly 6 months until its release, we can surely expect more clues and hints to be thrown our way. Let’s hope the movie lives up to its rapidly accelerating hype.

It’s a great way to build hype, although I thought that just saying the movie is directed by JJ Abrams would be enough.

When i first saw the img i thought this was like gonna be some post-apocalyptic movie, but from i read it’s gonna be a “monster movie”? They usually suck, hard. I’m not a big fan of filming technique either, it looks like its been produced by a 10 year old;i’m aware that this is a highly ’sophisticated’ technique, but i prefer the classic and clean productions. I hope it won’t waste my time if i ever get to see it.

When I have seen the trailer the first time, I was put off by the way the shots were filmed. I guess I am just not a fan of the shaky camera effect. But halfway down the trailer, after seeing how clean the effects were and how real it felt, I’d take this movie no other way. I think it is just brilliant to come up with that idea.

I cannot wait to see the movie. I’d keep the title though. 1-18-08 is just the coolest title.

I hope the movie matches all the hype thats building. But with six months still available on their calendars, the guys behind this movie have all the time in their hands to give us something worth our bucks.

The “monster” or whatever it is will make or break me wanting to see the movie.
