DVD: Ani Difranco Live at Babeville
By: Kendall | in: Music |Newly released today is Ani DiFranco’s third concert DVD, recorded on September 11th and 12th, 2007. This one is special due to the fact, that it was recorded in a 135 year old church that was converted into her new live music hall, Babeville, and new home for her label Righteous Babe. To view the new venue you can visit www.babevillebuffalo.com. The DVD is recorded in fantastic 5.1 surround sound, and 6 cameras were on hand to capture 2 nights of grand opening performances, totaling 18 songs, 2 that are until now, unreleased in studio album format.
The audio on the DVD is pristine, the new band features a vibraphonist, and a upright bass, drums, and Ani playing guitar as usual. The vibe is amazing, and you can still see the recent mother basking in the thrill of motherhood, and opening her own concert hall. The crowd is near rabid, fans are announcing they are naming their kids after her, and she’s beaming the whole time. For special features you will find interview and sound check footage. The only downfall to the disc is simply the camera cuts. Sometimes a bit too choppy, sometimes a bit too short lived, and on occasion, a little disorientating. If you can look past that, then you have a great concert DVD that will be a welcome addition.
