Hair Metal is Coming Back!

All music comes in cycles. Or maybe I should say that every 20 years or so we get a little resurgence of what music was like 20 years ago. We are definitely in the middle of an 80’s revival. I hear that dance drum beat again more than ever. Synths are warbling and squeaking through all kinds of songs. But the area that has me the most interested, and most excited about, is the slow, but inevitable comeback of 80’s based hair metal. New wave has been the way to go so far, but many new bands are started to bring back guitar solos and huge sing along choruses that make you want to pump your fist, and stick a rolled up sock in your spandex shorts.
The Darkness is my first case and point. They are the Godfathers of this comeback and blew up, leaving the door open. It’s sad that they broke up, but if their replacements can fill their shoes, I think I’ll just be OK.

Next, I would like to tout a band called Loud Lion that I have stumbled across. They tout Def Leppard as an influence many times over, and if you can’t hear it, then you and I are going to have to throw down. It’s so Def Leppard, it might be illegal, but it’s AWESOME. It features Bleu, Allison Robertson of The Donnas, Taylor Locke of Rooney, John Fields of Andrew WK, and more! Talk about a metal tour de force!

I discovered Bang Camaro after reading about them in Rolling Stone. Who said the name has to do with their two favorite things, girls, and power. Put them together, and there you have it. Bang Camaro. The drummer Dylan Halacy, and rhythm guitar player Maclaine Diemer are both in Loud Lion, also. The thing about this band is that they have 17 lead singers. I’m not kidding. See their myspace page. I’ll say it again so it sinks in, 17 LEAD SINGERS. And they only do choruses and solos. Let’s skip the parts that no one remembers. Makes sense to me. The only downfall is that the 17 lead singers all sing together in unison with no harmony. If they could work this out, they would be the metal answer to The Polyphonic Spree.
So here it stands folks. My testament that Metal is on the verge of comeback. Time to weigh in with your thoughts.

Heavy metal is coming back?!
Aieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!
These Bang Camaro guys aren’t bad…
There are a couple of exceptions, but the majority of Bang Camaro’s songs do actually have vocal harmonies to go along with the guitarmonies.
I’m a child of the 80’s and I’m lovin’ the retro sounds of alot of these new bands.
