My Guilty Pleasures of 2007
By: Mozzer | in: Music |
“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” That saying is as apt as ever with this post. Here are my top albums of 2007 that really aren’t all that great, but I gleefully enjoyed them anyway.
She Wants Revenge - ‘This is Forever’
More of the same is served in SWR’s 2nd release, and they even manage to sound more monolithic than the first. It’s essentially a mashup of Bauhaus and Joy Division spread over 13 indistinguishable tracks. I’m hopelessly drawn in every time I play it.
She Wants Revenge - True Romance
Erasure - ‘Light at the End of the World’
Though I’m an ardent fan of Erasure, I’ll admit they’ve not done anything fresh or innovative since their self-titled release back in ‘95. However, as with your favorite pair of jeans, putting them on is always a relaxing comfort.
Erasure - I Could Fall In Love With You
Editors - ‘An End Has a Start’
Putting a breath mint strip in your mouth is the same sensation you get listening to these guys; it’s invigorating for a few minutes, but it soon dissolves and is forgotten. My favorite track off this album is, um, you know, the one with the guitar.
Editors - An End Has a Start
Jonas Brothers - Self-titled
Yeah, I’m about to lose whatever hipster cred I have left. Being a dad, this was played non-stop at the behest of my offspring. The songs are simplistic, over-produced and way too hooky for its own good. But the kids enjoy it, and the tunes are forever etched in my brain. Disney is insidious.
Jonas Brothers - S.O.S.
There, now my shame is public. What were your guilty pleasures of 2007?

On a boring Saturday we caught High School Musical on television…it’s hard to admit, but I enjoyed it.
Lily Allen…yep, I said it.
More embarrassing than any particular guilty pleasure I might name is the simple fact that I don’t actually have a clue if I should be feeling guilty about what I’m listening to in the first place.
