New TV Show: Flight of the Concords

Flight of the Concords

I just tuned in to the new situation comedy by HBO, Flight of the Concords. It’s a story of two friends from New Zealand trying their luck as a band on the mean streets of New York. With help from their pretty much crazy band manager, Murray, and their awesome fan base of one, an obsessive married woman, they manage to book zero gigs and make zero money. But they go out singing their cool digi-folk tunes.
It has to be the brightest, most well written comedy I’ve seen in ages. Another HBO hit. It’s a classic indie cut series, so it will probably last on air for the next few weeks before they take it off for being too sophisticated or something, so I suggest you tune in while it lasts.
To my surprise as I was searching the internet for some background info on the duo I discovered they have been kicking it around since 2002. Apparently, they’re a successful comedy act with two albums out and many performances on Aussie TV. HBO picked up the series and ordered 12 episodes for this summer.
I could go rambling about this show for hours but instead I’ll leave you with a few clips to get you in the mood for next weeks episode.

Here’s what happened on episode 2 when Bret spotted a girl he likes:

Here’s a live show:
