Playlist of the Year…1967

By: Rustycat | in: Music |

1967 was the year psychadelic music and all the biggest acts were showing off their best material. And what a year it was - colors flying, love, drugs, and hippies. It was definitely the place to be. To pick a “playlist of the year” would be difficult because unlike the 1989 list I made (link), back then it wasn’t all about singles; it was more about complete albums. So if I had me a little Ipod back then, I’d put full albums in my playlist, and this would be the list:

Pink Floyd: The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
Velvet Underground & Nico: self-titled
Doors: Self Titled / Doors: Strange Days
Jimi Hendrix: Are You Experienced?
Beatles: Sgt. Pepper (also magical mystery tour)
Bob Dylan: Basement Tapes \ Bob Dylan: John Wesley Harding
Jefferson Airplane: Surrealistic Pillow
Buffalo Springfield: Again
Rolling Stones: Their Satanic Majesties Request
Cream – Disraeli Gears
The Grateful Dead – The Greatful Dead
Love: Da Capo

You can see from the shortlist I made that some of the biggest bands of all time were introduced to the market in 1967. The year 1967 is a very important milestone to contemporary Rock N’ Roll, if you want to read more check out Wikipedia “1967 in Music” (very thorough) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1967_in_music .
