Song of the Week – The Trans-Global Podcast

By: Charbarred | in: Music |

globe.jpg

This week births The Plugg’s first ever podcast! It was no small feat considering that our writers are scattered all over the world. We got the esteemed Plugg staff to record themselves and send over their intros. Kendall was kind enough to put it all together, and hopefully, if all else fails, at least you get to hear our voices. Depending on how well it’s received, we might turn this into a monthly thing.
So this time around, one player, no blurbs, and one huge download for everyone to enjoy. We’d really love to hear your thoughts on this one.

OK, I knew what lee sounded like already. The only one who sounded exactly what I expected is Lior. Voices are so weird when you have this image in your head.

Where is the whole “Lutheran missionary from Scandinavia” bit from?

  3. Kendall on June 15th, 2007 7:25 am

    That would be NACHOOOOOOOO Libre

  4. Charbarred on June 15th, 2007 7:27 am

I never saw that one…is it any good? I had it at home for 2 months and never found the time to watch it…in the end I just returned it.

It’s a good movie overall. Kind of stupid, but I liked it a lot. You just have to realize it’s not a typical Jack Black movie. It’s Jack Black in a Napolean Dynamite kind of movie. It’s worth a watching. I don’t know what possessed me to put that in there. I think it just made me giggle at the right time.

First off, Nice job Kendall! Is that Mrs. Tabor introducing us?
Other than my own choice I’d have to say that I really liked “Shoes” by Chris Volpe. I’m really big on lyrics and I’d have to say that this song really delivered. Happy to see the podcast come to fruition.

  7. Kendall on June 15th, 2007 8:15 am

Thanks, Lee. That’s actually Mrs. Charbarred introducing us. Mrs. Tabor just called me a big nerd when she saw what I was doing. Art Bruts lyrics are amazing. They are so simple and true. You should read up on that band. They sing about getting instruments and starting a band. And how brothers are failing college. It may sound lame, but I can’t even finish a song. At least they can.

Mrs. Charbarred was reading the song names in succession. At first she couldn’t make it past Nag Nag Nag Nag without cracking up (try saying that seriously to a microphone). We she finally got around that, she realized her next task is to read “U.S. Teens are Spoiled Bums” which set us back another half an hour.

Wow, guys, this international podcast thing is awesome!!! Please make it a regular thing here on The Plugg …
I love all of your songs…and your voices! Some of my guesses were right… :)
First of all: Rusty! That song playing in the background was a conscious homage to “The Big Lebowsky” ’s soundtrack, wasn’t it? :D I liked that track by Magnolia…a soothing country sound.
Kendall’s track is great, maybe my favourite this week: so powerful, I like it I like I like it! :)
Another stunning country track coming from Lior’s pick…love the harmonica part. Some chords really remind me of some song by Simon and Garfunkel.
Char, you choose punkrock tracks so rarely but they always leave me breathless. This is sheer genius, ex aequo with Kendall’s track! That Cockney accent makes it sound so Clashy…which definitely is a plus to me! :D
I liked Lee’s choice: simple songs with great lyrics are always great to hear. Once again this week, something country about this track…Seems like you guys split in two groups this week - the countrymen and the rockers… :)
D Thompson’s pick was a total surprise, as always…the maddest song of the bunch, you should work with Tarantino! And I liked the story about the monkey with the hairless butt so much…I am still laughing! :D

Great work! Please promise me I can listen to your voices again… :)

  10. Giovanna on June 15th, 2007 9:44 am

OMG, I got that smiley fever again. :D

  11. Kendall on June 15th, 2007 9:47 am

That music in the beginning is also from Nacho Libre!

  12. Charbarred on June 15th, 2007 9:49 am

    Smilies rule!
Thanks for the kind words Giovanna. We’ll definitely try and do another one.

  13. Rustycat on June 15th, 2007 12:04 pm

    Great job guys!
I’m so glad this was a success. Big decision now - SOTW or Podcast…hmmm.

Char - Nacho Libre is one of the funniest movies I’ve seen this year.

  14. DThompson on June 15th, 2007 12:21 pm

Well that was really great. Good song choices, and more important, good order.
Char! My rawkin’ bro! Art Brut is a great band, and you know the bassist? I’m telling everyone I know! That is so cool, maybe I can pick up some of that coolness by saying I know the guy who knows the bass player for Art Brut! Seriously fun story.
Lee, great lyrics on that song. I need to force myself to listen to music that has depth and meaning. You make it easy!
Kendall, the whole production was very nice, and I spent four years in radio production so I know from nice. Thanks for the applause for my Becky The Monkey story! :)
    Finally:
    1) Yeesh, do I really sound like THAT?
    2) Where’s Alibastard got to?

  15. DThompson on June 15th, 2007 12:23 pm

    3) I’m glad you liked the 1/2 Japanese song, Giovanna. I had to record the Becky story six times and ended up chopping bits from each one together to get a yammer where I didn’t bust out laughing.

  16. Charbarred on June 15th, 2007 12:51 pm

I think Alibastard is having computer problems…
And that monkey butt story killed!

  17. Kendall on June 15th, 2007 12:54 pm

D! Glad you liked it. I wish I had my normal system to do it, but it came out ok. Also, I’m glad you picked up on the applause. Wasn’t sure if anyone would get that.

  18. Ryan of the RSL Music Weblog on June 15th, 2007 3:30 pm

I need to get that comic book….. all in all a great job!

  19. mozzer on June 22nd, 2007 9:24 pm

Yeah, I’m late to the party, but this podcast kicked ass!

Great idea and a nice change of pace. It goes without saying, you guys can pick out great tunes. Cheers!
