The Cure’s New Single ‘The Only One’

By: Mozzer | in: Music |

The Cure

Leading up to The Cure’s perpetually delayed, yet eagerly anticipated album, the band will release a single on the 13th of each month which began on May 13th. Also generating buzz is guitarist Porl Thompson’s celebrated return to the group. (Side note: Porl’s current look rendered him unrecognizable to me.) And if that isn’t enough to get the fans excited, their U.S. tour has resumed and is already underway.

Admittedly, The Only One delivers more of the same, but it still manages to conjure feelings of carefee infatuation and a yearning for the days of yore. The lyrics are laced with double entendres such as “When you blow me outside / and then suck me like this”, or perhaps Robert Smith is simply being explicit these days. All in all, Cure fans will be pleased with this single.

The still-untitled album is slated for release on September 13th.

Robert has an edge on lots of aging rock stars in that he was always…err…heavy…
    Still sounds great though.

It’s a great tune. It seems like Robert Smith has a stock of catchy tunes to be included in each album. When you listen to the actual albums they’re usually pretty dark , but you can always rely on a Cure “hit” to be included. That’s a good formula because he gets a lot of people to listen to his more serious stuff that way without selling out.

Gave it a few more listens… it sounds like a lost track from ‘Wish’.

btw, the wife and I will be checking out the Cure in Austin. I’m counting down the days. :)

Only saw them once and it was an amazing gig. They did almost all of Disintegration (even though it was 99) and then went on to do all their hits. I’m told by friends that they never skimp on the hits. Enjoy the gig.

The years have not been kind to the looks of some of the band members…

Saw them for the Head On The Door tour, if that doesn’t age me too much. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

Unkind? Steve, you’re being too kind, some of them look like the creatures from I am Legend.
Head in the Door? Did they have tours during WWII?
    :-)

Can’t beat that voice! So distinct, so individual. What music’s about to me.

I hope I get to paint him someday too.

    Peace.
