The Plugg Inbox: New Music, Videos and Podcast

By: Rustycat | in: Music |

We get hundreds of press releases on a daily basis to our inbox. We love the music and the press agents and labels are sending us, truly awesome stuff, but it’s really hard writing about each and every cool band. So I wanted to share some quick notes with you guys while I listen to music.
I have to add that it’s quite refreshing to see that the promoters out there are doing a great job sending us music that really connects with what The Plugg is all about. Thanks!

Monroe Mustang – The Other Side

“It’s been nearly eight years since this Oklahoma-originated
(Austin-based) band have released an album. A product of home recording sessions spanning more than a decade, Monroe Mustang’s fifth release is entitled “Monroe Mustang, The Imaginary Band, Regretfully Declines”. It comes out on Jagjaguwar as a digital-only release on April 8th.”

Rusty says: Sounds promising. Did I mention I’m a big Jagjaguwar/Secretly Canadian fan?!

Peter & the Wolf – Podcast: Interview & Live Sessions

“Peter and the Wolf’s eclectic, experimental blend of Americana and folk music is shaped by frontman Red Hunter (real name: Brian Redding Hunter). Known for holding concerts in such nontraditional places as cemeteries, sailboats, and remote islands only accessible by canoe, Hunter self-released a CD-R of original material before an L.A.-based indie label, The Worker’s Institute, signed his band in 2006.”

Rusty says: One of the few times I actually survived listening to a full length podcast..

Dead Confederate – The Rat live SXSW

“Dead Confederate perform “The Rat” at EAR in Austin, TX during SXSW 2008 for a live performance broadcast on woxy.com”

Rusty says: My new favorite band. Absolutely, 100% great. Thanks Joe from Woxy for this one, you guys rock!

Nik Freitas – All the Way Down

“Nik Freitas’ Team Love debut Sun Down - equal parts wry, warm and sonorous - is the end product of several years of ups and downs. Freitas writes, plays, engineers and produces every note on his records. Not that he’s got a lot of expensive gear. A visit to his Poppy Peak studio/shed reveals that Nik is working low-budget minor miracles, The kind of miracles one receives via hundreds of hours on Craigslist. Sun Down will hit stores on May 8.”

Rusty says: It reminds me of the 60’s tunes I used to listen to, just thought it would be nice to add something calm and soothing to the mix.

Tilly and the Wall – Cacophony

“Tilly and the Wall are ready to begin making noise about their upcoming full length set to be released June 17th on Team Love records. The album, produced by the acclaimed Mike Mogis, has no title. It could be called O because its cover is just that: an oval-shaped frame for the artwork that will go inside of it.”

Rusty says: I’ve always liked them, looking forward to this one.

The Radishes – Strychnine

“The Radishes are a San Francisco/Los Angeles based band with a sound that has been described as Nirvana meets Motorhead. Other influences include such high-energy units as The White Stripes, The Stooges, Ministry, The Hives, Scratch Acid, and NIN, with hooky, angular guitar lines, ferocious vocals, and a unique, darkly ironic approach to songwriting.”

Rusty says: Nice.

The Chap – They Have a Name

“UK’s bizzaro-electro-rock sensation The Chap has signed to beloved electronic superlabel Ghostly International. The Chap is a three/four/five piece modern pop group based in North London. After receiving critical acclaim from more than a few worthy individuals for their first two albums, The Chap serve up their third release, the ambitious Mega Breakfast, which will be released in the US on July 1st.”

Rusty says: I know this is not exactly our thing here at The Plugg, but I thought it was bizzarre enough to mention for all you experimental electro fans out there.

Lemuria – Dog/Dogs

“Lemuria is guitarist/vocalist Sheena Ozzella, bassist Jason Draper, and drummer/vocalist Alex Kerns. The band formed in 2004 and, in true DIY fashion, self-released several EPs and 7”s over the past few years. In 2006, they released a split LP with Kind of Like Spitting, which was released on Art of the Underground, a record label/distro run by drummer Alex. They’ve also done a 5-week tour of Europe and generally tour around the States 4-5 months out of the year. This April they are doing a mini tour of Puerto Rico. Seriously…the band has been keeping busy.”

Rusty says: I never heard them before, they’re going straight in to my playlist.

Willard Grant Conspiracy – Full Concert

Rusty says: I’m subscribed to FabChannel’s iTunes podcast and thoug this is not new, they sent me a video from this concert and it blew my mind. If you have a few moments hit play and sit back and enjoy this amazing concert.
