Traveler: Not Just another Prison Break
By: Rustycat | in: TV |I’ve been meaning to write about ABC’s summer hit, Traveler for quite some time now but haven’t made up my mind if it’s worth the ‘Plugg’ or if it’s just another 24 – Lost – Prison Break rip off.

Traveler is the story of three college buddies passing the time until they finish school and go away on a two month cross country road trip. Turns out one of the three, Will Traveler, was playing Jay and Tyler all along and setting them up for the fall of a big terrorist attack on the Drexler Museum.
Season kicks off with the bombing and finds Tyler and Jay running for their life endlessly across the states to find shelter from the FBI and answers about their so called friend Will Traveler who set them up. As the story prgresses Will finds himself in a bind as well, kicked off the “company” player list and a contract made on his life.
This show is very well acted and directed, although at times you find all the cheap TV thriller elements in it, it still delivers at the end. It’s one of those “Cliff Hanger” shows like Charbarred wrote about in his awesome article “to be continued…the oldest trick in the book”.

What brought me to write about it finally, was last week’s episode, episode 7 “The Reunion”. For those who haven’t seen the show yet, SEE IT. For those who have been following: isn’t it pure genius that they finally reunite?
I can’t wait for next week’s episode, little spoiler on www.tv.com says they’ll join forces to take down that Freid dude from Homeland security, or at least the people behind the bombing, and that agent Marlow will be taken off the case.
I wonder if it’s going to last 24 episodes or is it going to be one of those series that last eight and then a second season will follow in the fall. From what I make it’s the last episode of the season. Bummer.

Rusty, you’re my brother and I love you, but this show sucks.
Yes, I watch it every week mainly because there’s nothing better on but:
1. It’s very poorly written. The only surprise I’ve ever gotten on the show is not falling asleep during an episode.
2. I don’t care about the main characters (as we call them Birdshit and Frog). They have absolutely no endearing qualities. As far as I’m concerned, they can be given the chair right now just for being so boring.
3. The acting is in par with a cereal commercial
4. BS and Frog are sooo stupid. Their reactions are those of 12 year olds. At first I thought it was cool that they react like real people would, but after a couple of episodes it gets tedious when you know you could have done better.
5. The flashbacks!!! We just saw him kill that woman, why do we need 5 flashbacks of the same scene in an episode???
6. We all know it will never get another season, so we’ll never get any real resolution.
Wow! Aside from Char’s glowing recommendation above, I’ll ask Rusty, the brother who doesn’t call the characters Frog and Bird Shit what HE thinks of this show’s chances for renewal.
I got burned on Twin Peaks and burned again with Carnivale (F*!#k you HBO!!) To sort of quote a famous national leader: Twice burned, once shy… Won’t get burned again!
So what is it Rusty? Gimme a percentage!
Looks like it’s not coming back:

At least it lasted longer than Drive.
